Waiter¶
You use two screens: the service panel on a phone (/{slug}/waiter) and the
Service page on the tablet at the till. Both show the same tables; bill
splitting and payment marking exist only on the Service page inside the panel.
At the start of a shift¶
- Sign in with your own account at
/admin. - Open the table board and check whether any table was left open.
- Tap the screen once so the sound alerts work.
Reading the table board¶
The colour of each table box tells you what to do:
| Shown | Meaning | To do |
|---|---|---|
| Empty | No open order | — |
| New order | Awaiting approval | Approve so the kitchen starts |
| Preparing | In the kitchen | Wait |
| Ready | Ready to serve | Take it over, mark served |
| Waiter call | The guest called (table turns orange) | Go to the table, press On my way |
| Bill request | The bill was requested | Go with the bill / terminal |
The sort by longest wait filter brings the forgotten table forward. Work with that filter during a rush.
When a guest presses Call waiter, the table turns orange. Go to the table, handle the request and press On my way; this resolves the call so other waiters know the table has been seen to and do not head over unnecessarily.
Taking an order¶
Tap the table box, then from the panel that opens:
- Add item — adds to the open order; opens a new order if the table has none.
- Item note — “mild”, “no onions”. The note goes onto the kitchen ticket.
- Table note — something about the table (“birthday”, “has an allergy”); everyone on the team sees it.
Closing the bill¶
- The guest asks for the bill (from their phone or from you).
- Collect the money.
- Mark paid — cash or paid — card.
Pressing the right button matters: the end-of-day till reconciliation is done from that split.
Splitting the bill¶
When everyone at a large table pays their own share:
- Split the bill.
- Open a portion per person and assign items to people.
- Mark the payer's portion as paid.
- Finalise the bill once everyone has paid.
You can undo a wrongly assigned item; cancelling the split returns the table to a single bill.
Do not¶
- Close a table with close without payment — it reduces revenue. That is only for comps and mistaken tables; ask if in doubt.
- Leave a table empty without closing the bill; the next guest's order gets mixed up with the old one.
- Work under someone else's account. Performance records would be written to the wrong person.
Common questions¶
The order shows on the wrong table. The guest may have scanned another table's code. To move it, close the table and reopen the order on the right one; ask a manager if you are unsure.
A guest cannot order. Did they scan the code on the table, is their phone online, is QR ordering enabled for the business — check in that order.
No sound for new orders. Reload the page and tap the screen once; browsers do not play sound on a page nobody has touched.
